Arsenal are concerned about Bukayo Saka after the winger suffered a quadriceps injury during their 2-2 Champions League draw against Bayern Munich. Mikel Arteta admitted the early signs were worrying, leaving the club waiting for medical tests to determine the severity of the problem, as per latest injury news.
Arteta concerned after Bukayo Saka suffers injury
Saka went off just 10 minutes into the match at the Allianz Arena. He fell while trying to make a pass, with no opponent near him, and seemed to be in a lot of pain. Arteta replaced him with Eberechi Eze, who later scored the Gunners’ opening goal. The Arsenal boss was worried about the injury. He said the sharp pain Saka felt was a bad sign. However, the club must carry out more tests before they can understand the problem fully.
As reported by BBC Sport, Arteta’s comments showed that there is still no clear answer about Saka’s condition. Arsenal have yet to say how long he could be out. His return date therefore remains unknown.
Saka has experienced several fitness problems in recent seasons. A hamstring injury required surgery in December 2024 and kept him out for around 101 days. He also struggled with an Achilles problem that affected his availability towards the end of last season and in international football for England.
Saka remained an important player despite the setbacks, as he made 49 appearances during their title-winning campaign. His latest injury is therefore a concern for Arteta, particularly with the Premier League and Champions League campaigns continuing.
Arsenal have options, but Bukayo Saka will be missed
Saka’s value to Arsenal goes beyond scoring goals. He can create chances, beat defenders and help the team attack from the right wing. This makes him one of Arsenal’s most important players. A long spell out would be a major blow, even with other options in the squad.
However, Arsenal showed against Bayern that other players can step up. After Saka left the pitch, Noni Madueke moved to the right wing. Eze also came on and scored a goal. Their performances gave Arteta some hope, despite losing a key attacker so early in the game.
Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha also spoke about Saka’s importance while discussing the injury on Champions League Match of the Day. He said Arsenal would miss the quality Saka brings to the team. However, he also felt the squad had enough options to deal with his absence.
Madueke’s ability to play on either flank gives Arteta flexibility when selecting his front line. Other attacking players could also be considered, depending on the diagnosis and the number of games Saka might miss.

Arteta backs his attacking players to step up
Arsenal have several attacking options after signing new players in recent transfer windows. This could help if Saka is out for a long time. Youngster Max Dowman is another option, but Arteta must manage his game time during a busy run of matches.
Arsenal still put in a strong display against Bayern Munich despite losing Saka early. Declan Rice scored late to earn a 2-2 draw. Arteta also praised his substitutes, especially Eze, for their impact and effort.
However, Saka’s injury remains the main concern. Arsenal must wait for medical tests to learn how serious it is. Until the club confirms the results, Arteta cannot know how long his star winger will be out.
