While the dramatic downpours we have seen today will ease off, Sunday could still present challenges as high winds batter our city region

Football fans heading to Anfield to watch Liverpool FC in action on Sunday have been warned about potentially dangerous weather. Our region has been battered by wind and rain today, with yellow weather warnings in place on both fronts. Merseyside, like much of the country, is currently feeling the impact of the arrival of Storm Boelo.
And we can expect the difficult conditions to continue into Sunday, when tens of thousands of people will be heading to Anfield to watch Liverpool take on Brighton in a Premier League fixture which gets underway at 2pm.
A yellow weather warning for wind will remain in place for our region throughout tomorrow, ending at 9pm. This warning, issued by the Met Office, means that there is a possibility of injuries and a danger to life from flying debris due to the very high winds.
Wind speeds could reach over 50mph in Liverpool for most of tomorrow, according to the Met Office forecast and this could result in damage to buildings and trees, such as tiles blown from roofs and trees or large branches potentially being blown over.

The Met Office warns that road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.
And this is already proving to be the case, with Merseyrail announcing that some of the first scheduled trains tomorrow will run without passengers.

The transport operator says this is a precaution being taken to ensure the rail lines are clear and safe to use. If an issue is found, further services may be cancelled.

Customers - including anyone travelling for the football tomorrow - have been urged to check the Merseyrail website or app before travelling, as service information will be updated throughout the day. Rail replacement buses will be running between Sandhills, Rock Ferry and Moorfields stations as planned.
While the windy conditions are expected to continue into tomorrow, the good news for fans travelling to Anfield is it won't be anywhere near as wet in Liverpool as it has been today.
While the city and region have been drenched by thunderous downpours, the Met Office forecast for Liverpool tomorrow shows much smaller percentages of chances of rain throughout the day.
But Merseyside Police has warned that the windy conditions on Sunday do present dangers. A statement from the force, issued today, reads: "Storm Boelo will bring high winds to Merseyside on Sunday meaning driving conditions will be challenging and coastal areas will be dangerous.
"If you absolutely have to use the roads to go somewhere remember to:
Keep your speed down
Keep your eyes on the road at all times
Be aware of hazards like fallen trees or traffic lights that are out
Watch out for surface water
