Defenders who remain on the pitch after receiving treatment can still leave supporters watching the closing stages more carefully than usual. A strong challenge or an awkward landing often prompts an immediate check from the medical staff before the player is allowed to continue. Those moments tend to draw extra attention once the final whistle arrives, particularly when the side is already managing several absences elsewhere.
The centre-back pairing has been central to recent performances and any disruption would require further adjustments. Keeping the same combination available for the next fixture remains a priority as the schedule continues without a break. Early indications after the match have offered some encouragement, though a full assessment will still be required.
Arsenal secured a 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates, with Gabriel heading in the second goal midway through the second half. The Brazilian needed treatment around the 56th minute after lunging to clear a cross, yet he returned to the pitch and finished the match. His goal, which came from an open-play cross by Ben White, was his first Premier League strike not to arrive from a set piece.
Mikel Arteta says Gabriel “seems to be okay” after the defender’s worrying knock in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton. Gabriel needed lengthy treatment around the 56th minute, played on, headed the second goal in the 68th minute from Ben White’s cross and finished the match.
He lunged to clear a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall cross with his left leg and his right knee hit the turf, according to NBC Sports. He grabbed at his upper leg, went to the touchline for treatment and was doing stretches as he left the pitch, then returned to the game.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said the moment had looked worrying. “By the reaction of his teammates it was a worrying action,” he said. “We all know Gabi, how tough and strong he is, and he seems to be okay.” That’s encouraging, but it isn’t a medical update. Arsenal haven’t announced a diagnosis or any scan. The goal was his 200th league appearance and his 21st Premier League goal.
Liverpool v Arsenal is at Anfield on Sunday 1 November, kick-off 16:30 UK time. Arteta’s words point to Gabriel being available, and he finished the match after the scare. Until Arsenal give a fuller update, though, nobody outside the club can be certain, and a player can finish a game and still feel it in the days after. Arsenal were already without Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, and Christos Tzolis is out too.
Gabriel’s ability to play on and still contribute a goal will be viewed positively by the coaching staff. The partnership with Konsa has been one of the more reliable elements of the side in recent weeks, and maintaining that continuity would help ahead of the trip to Anfield. Further updates are expected once the medical team has completed its assessment in the coming days.
