Flavio Goncalves Transfer: Chelsea and Man Utd Eye£50m Sporting CP Winger

Chelsea and Man Utd Plan January Move

Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly preparing a formal approach for Sporting CP forward Flavio Goncalves, according to Caught Offside. The 19-year-old has impressed in recent weeks, scoring three goals and providing one assist in nine appearances this season.

Sporting Demand Release Clause Payment

Both Premier League sides are said to be readying an offer of up to £42m. However, Sporting are unwilling to negotiate, as Goncalves’s contract runs until 2030 and carries a £50m release clause.

The Portuguese club also plan to offer a new deal that would raise the clause to £84m, though talks have reportedly stalled.

Why Chelsea Feel Confident

Chelsea are said to be optimistic about landing the teenager, thanks to their healthy relationship with Sporting after signing Geovany Quenda. It remains unclear whether Goncalves is fully committed to staying in Lisbon.

Goncalves’s Style and Squad Fit

A right-footed left winger, Goncalves is quick, technically assured and strong in tight spaces. He also creates chances well for team-mates.

United currently rely on Matheus Cunha and Marcus Rashford on the left, though both have struggled for form. Chelsea can call on Morgan Rogers and Jamie Gittens, with Pedro Neto offering cover.

Our Take

In my view, Goncalves would suit either club given his age and potential. Chelsea’s connection with Sporting could prove decisive, but United’s need on the left looks more pressing. It will be fascinating to see which club makes the first concrete move in January.
