On-loan Barcelona star breaks silence on future amid impressive Liverpool spell

The defender Ronald Araujo was one of the several FC Barcelona players who left the club during the last summer transfer window on loan, as he joined the Premier League side Liverpool. The Uruguayan was not enjoying a lot of prominence in Hansi Flick’s plans for the last few years, and had largely been a substitute for the German coach at best.

A few months into the 2026-27 season, this move is already proving to be quite a good decision for Araujo, as he has become almost a fixed starter for Andoni Iraola at the right-back position. He has been particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League, where he has scored two goals and provided one assist.

In fact, his performances have been so convincing that [he has been asked by the media twice in the last week about his future at Liverpool](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/barcelona-loanee-ronald-araujo-opens-up-on-his-liverpool-future/). As [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20261024/1004242714/araujo.html) has reported, he recently appeared in an interview with The Times, and commented that his future does not depend entirely on him:

**“It’s too early to talk about that. I want to thank everyone for the affection they’ve shown me, because it has helped me enormously. Whether I stay at Liverpool or not doesn’t depend solely on me.”**

During this interview, the defender also opened up on his mental struggles while playing for Barcelona, and highlighted how taking a break from professional football helped him:

**“Sometimes you keep everything bottled up and try to be strong, but in life you have to talk about things and be honest about what you’re going through.”**

**“Taking this break was the best decision I’ve ever made. Today, I feel good, I’m happy, and I’m rediscovering the joy of playing football. Now I can show once again what I’m truly capable of.”**

As things are going, it is becoming increasingly clear that leaving Barcelona and joining Liverpool was the right decision for Ronald Araujo. Going forward, it remains to be seen whether he will continue with the Merseyside club or return to the Catalan side at the end of the season.
