Brighton & Hove Albion head into Sunday’s Premier League outing in excellent form, with Fabian Hurzeler’s side looking to continue their impressive run when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
The Seagulls have won eight of their 12 matches across all competitions this season (D3, L1). Their only defeat came in a seven-goal thriller against Chelsea at the end of August.
Since that defeat, Brighton have gone on an eight-match unbeaten streak (W6, D2).
They’re heading to Anfield on the back of a four-match winning streak, including big wins against Premier League champions Arsenal and fierce rivals Crystal Palace.
Their goalless draw against Czech side Jablonec in the UEFA Europa Conference League halted their winning streak across all competitions at four games.
However, they’ll look to build on their Premier League form when they visit Anfield.
Brighton scored 15 goals and kept four clean sheets during that winning streak, making them a terrifying prospect for their opponents at the moment.
The Seagulls’ unbelievable start to the season proves they can compete with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, so they’ll fancy their chances against Liverpool.
While Hurzeler’s side won 2-1 in their last meeting with Liverpool at the Amex Stadium, Brighton’s record at Anfield stacks the odds heavily against them.
Brighton have won just one of their last nine Premier League visits to Anfield (D2, L6), securing a 1-0 victory over the Reds in February 2021.
They’re winless in their last five visits after that solitary victory (D2, L3), losing the last three in a row by a combined scoreline of 6-2.
However, their remarkable start to the season will fuel their desire to end their Anfield nightmares.
How Brighton could line up
Bart Verbruggen is set to start in goal and will be keen to secure a sixth clean sheet in eight Premier League games.
After tinkering with his starting XI in midweek, Hurzeler should return to a settled back line of Ferdi Kadioglu, Lewis Dunk, Luka Vuskovic, and Oscar Boscagli.
Pascal Gross and Chem Andres should continue their dynamic midfield partnership.
Georginio Rutter returns to the XI for his first Premier League start in over two months, possibly taking Yasin Ayari’s place in the number 10 role.
The 24-year-old will likely be flanked by Maxim De Cuyper and Diego Gomes, while the in-form Charalampos Kostoulas continues to lead the line.
(4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Kadioglu, Dunk, Vuskovic, Boscagli; Gross, Andres; Gomez, Rutter, De Cuyper; Kostoulas
