Spanish Wonderkid Has Release Clause Doubled After Liverpool Made Move To Poach Him
Liverpool transfer target David Otorbi has had his release clause increased to €60m (£50m) just days after the Reds tried to prise him away from Valencia, according to reports.
Spanish publication Plaza Deportiva claim that the winger’s contract has been automatically extended by three years, with his buyout fee having doubled.
They verified a report by the X account Tribuna Deportiva, which suggested that Liverpool had informed Otorbi’s agent that they were going to trigger his original €30m (£25m) release clause.

However, Valencia got wind of it, and they decided to trigger their contract extension. Originally, the new deal would only have come into effect after a specific number of games, but the La Liga side were keen to head off interest from England.
Otorbi’s agent has confirmed Premier League interest
Speaking to Radio Marca Valencia at the start of this week, the teenager’s representative Nacho Gallart said:
“It’s true that many clubs have called us, especially from the Premier League. We are very comfortable in Valencia and, for the moment, our only objective is to continue learning, continue adding and help the team if the coach considers it appropriate… We want it to be slow; we believe that it is necessary, and we do not want to rush [his development].”
Following the news about Liverpool’s interest, those quotes can be seen in a new light.
What do Liverpool fans need to know about Otorbi?
The forward was brought up in Valencia, and he joined the club’s academy before making regular appearances for the B team.
Otorbi’s first-team debut came in the Copa del Rey against FC Cartagena at the start of 2024. Later the same year, he made his La Liga bow versus Barcelona.
It was another two years before the 19-year-old made his second appearance in La Liga, coming on as a substitute against Real Betis back in August. Last month, the youngster got his first league start against Barcelona during a 5-0 loss.
