New York, USA – Inter Miami suffered a 2-0 defeat against their host, the New York Red Bulls, in the match that brought the two teams together in the American Football League, after the teammates of Argentine star Lionel Messi failed to come back during the second half.
Messi started the match on the bench, while Uruguayan Luis Suarez led Inter Miami’s attack, and Casemiro played in the center of defense.
New York Red Bulls opened the scoring early, specifically in the seventh minute, after Kid Coyle sent a low cross from the right side, which Casemiro failed to clear properly, resulting in an own goal that gave the home side the lead.
Despite Inter Miami having possession of the ball at times during the match, the New York Red Bulls looked more dangerous in front of goal and managed to maintain their lead against the visitors’ attempts to get back into the game.
Inter Miami’s coaching staff brought on Messi in the 56th minute of the match, hoping to change the course of the encounter and equalize, but the Argentine star’s participation did not result in changing the score.
While Inter Miami intensified their efforts to equalize, Emil Forsberg dealt the visitors a second blow, scoring New York Red Bulls’ second goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, sealing the victory for the home side with two goals to nil.
With this result, the New York Red Bulls raised their tally to 39 points, placing them ninth in the Eastern Conference standings of the American League, while Inter Miami’s tally remained frozen at 55 points in third place in the same conference.
