Moises Caicedo has reflected on Chelsea's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday evening in what was an extremely disappointing night for Xabi Alonso's Blues

Moises Caicedo believes everyone at Chelsea is on the same page regarding the side's deficiencies following a humbling 2-0 defeat against Tottenham on Saturday evening.

An own goal from Mike Penders and a long-range strike from Mathys Tel saw the Blues fall to their first Premier League home defeat to Spurs in more than eight years.

Cole Palmer was shown a red card in between the two goals to compile the misery on an evening that Chelsea will want to forget as soon as possible.

Caicedo, who was given the captain's armband in the absence of Reece James, bemoaned the Blues' inability to maintain their focus throughout the game, resulting in the hosts being punished in west London.

"We need to be focused during the whole game because if you switch off for one second, you get punished," said Caicedo.

"We need to learn from this because we need to stop this from happening and we need to maintain the clean sheet for the whole game.

‌

"It was a tough one, but we need to keep going because there are more games in front of us and we want to do better."

He added: "Everybody knows what we need to improve. We are going to think about this game because we need to be up there in the table.

"We need to learn from this and for sure we are going to be up there [at the end of the season]."

‌

There have been plenty of encouraging signs in the early days of Xabi Alonso's Stamford Bridge reign - particularly from an attacking perspective.

Chelsea supporters would have hoped their side turned a corner by keeping their first clean sheet in nine months against Everton the weekend prior, but the Blues' defensive woes were on show again in the defeat to Tottenham.

Chelsea, also, were too passive against Spurs. A side that went into the game in the relegation spots arrived at Stamford Bridge to a hostile atmosphere, yet Roberto De Zerbi's team were allowed to dominate the ball.

‌

The Blues looked to hurt Tottenham in transition but those moments rarely appeared. Spurs were able to play through the home side with ease at times and were good value for their once-in-a-blue-moon victory in Chelsea's backyard.

Chelsea do not have too much time to lick their wounds as a trip to Anfield in the Carabao Cup fourth round beckons this week. Incidentally, it will be Alonso's third visit as a coach to Liverpool, his former home, but his first as Chelsea manager, and the Spaniard has lost both of his trips to date.
