The Indianapolis Colts could be on the precipice of yet another rebuild. Indy is already receiving trade interest in some of their veteran players after starting the season 2-4. NFL teams may even start calling about the best player on the Colts' entire roster ahead of the trade deadline.
The Packers, Seahawks, Broncos, and Vikings have all been named as teams expected to consider a Jonathan Taylor trade, per NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
However, it is unclear how willing the Colts are to actually deal their superstar running back. In fact, it sounds like owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon is not thrilled about the idea.
“While Taylor is the splashiest name being discussed in trades, sources informed of the Colts' thinking made one strong point: Irsay-Gordon views Taylor as a key part of the organization and a likely mainstay in their rebuild,” Schefter and Rapoport wrote. “There is always a price, and this one would likely cost premium draft pick compensation.”
The Colts signed Taylor to a two-year extension worth $42 million back in August. Multiple NFL teams still view Taylor as a top trade target despite signing that contract. He is only due $7 million in base salary for the rest of the 2026 season. After that, he is due $16 million in 2027 and $18 million in 2028. That is a small price to pay for an elite running back who is still in his prime at 27 years old.
All four teams listed could use a boost at the running back position. The Packers may be the most interesting team of the four. To start, Taylor played college football at Wisconsin. Green Bay also reportedly explored a potential Taylor trade back in 2023. However, they did not want to give up Christian Watson in the deal.
Now the Packers have Josh Jacobs back in action, which further complicates matters. Still, the Packer shouldn't let him get in the way of a Taylor trade if both sides can agree to terms.
It will be fascinating to see if Indy seriously considers trading Taylor before the deadline.
The 2026 NFL trade deadline is November 10th at 4 p.m. ET.
