A close eye has been kept on the weather ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Brighton, with Storm Boelo bringing strong winds and disruption across parts of the UK.

The Met Office issued weather warnings ahead of the weekend, with gusts of 60-70mph expected across large parts of northern Britain and the potential for even stronger winds in exposed coastal areas.

Merseyside was also placed under a yellow weather warning, raising concerns about the conditions surrounding Anfield.

The situation became serious enough for Aintree Racecourse to cancel Sunday’s scheduled race meeting, while other attractions across the region were also affected by the challenging weather.

However, the most recent reports from the Met Office suggest that the worst of Storm Boelo is moving away from Merseyside.

There had also been questions about whether Liverpool’s meeting with Brighton would go ahead as planned.

However, Liverpool confirmed that the game would take place at its scheduled 2pm kick-off, while warning supporters to take care when travelling to the stadium.

The club advised fans to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time and follow instructions from stewards when arriving at Anfield.

Now, there has been a further update from inside the ground which should provide some encouragement ahead of the match.

Liverpool journalist David Lynch took to X to share his experience of the conditions around the stadium, revealing that the wind was considerably less troublesome once he reached pitch side.

“Just nearly been blown away walking up to the ground but the conditions far more serene pitchside. Hopefully shouldn’t have too big an impact on the match itself,” Lynch wrote.

That is a positive sign for Liverpool and Brighton, with the strong winds potentially making life difficult for both teams.

Windy conditions can affect long passes, crosses and goalkeepers dealing with balls in the air, meaning the weather could have played a significant role in Sunday’s contest.

While conditions around the stadium remain a concern for travelling supporters, Lynch’s update suggests the situation on the pitch may be more manageable than initially feared.

Liverpool will now hope the weather stays calm enough for the game to take place without any major disruption.
