Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing a tactical plan to exploit Barcelona’s defensive vulnerabilities when Real Madrid visit Spotify Camp Nou for the first El Clasico of the 2026/27 season.
According to Defensa Central, the Real Madrid manager believes forcing key Barça players to work defensively could disrupt their attacking rhythm and leave Hansi Flick’s side vulnerable late in the match.
The report identifies Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon, Pedri and Rodri as players Mourinho will pay particular attention to.
His approach centres on winning possession, releasing attackers quickly and exploiting the space behind Barcelona’s high defensive line.
Rather than simply sitting deep and relying on counter-attacks, Mourinho is said to believe Real Madrid can create problems by making Barcelona’s attacking players repeatedly track back.
The theory is that sustained defensive work could leave them fatigued and reduce their precision when they regain possession and attempt to create chances.

Lamine Yamal and Gordon provide width and attacking threat, while Pedri and Rodri are central to Barcelona’s ability to control possession and progress the ball.
If Real Madrid can force these players into extended defensive sequences, it could interfere with the structure Flick wants his team to maintain.
Defensa Central’s report suggests Mourinho has studied Barcelona’s recent Champions League performances against Paris Saint-Germain to identify potential weaknesses.
The emphasis is on the moments when Barcelona’s defensive organisation becomes vulnerable as players tire and spaces begin to open.
Barcelona’s high defensive line can help the team press opponents and keep play in the opposition half, but it also creates space for quick forward runs.

Real Madrid possess players capable of exploiting those gaps, with Yan Diomande and Kylian Mbappe highlighted in the report for their ability to carry the ball forward at speed.
That threat could become more significant in the closing stages, particularly if Barcelona lose possession while committing players forward.
The plan centres on winning the ball and moving it forward efficiently, using through balls to release runners into the space behind Barcelona’s defence.
Rather than resorting to aimless long passes, Real Madrid would look to progress quickly and deliver the ball to their attackers in dangerous positions.
Mourinho’s approach places the spotlight on a familiar tactical dilemma: Barcelona’s high line helps them dominate matches, but poor positioning after losing possession can turn that strength into a weakness.
