Bayern Munich have built their midfield around a homegrown talent who has quickly earned the trust of Vincent Kompany. At 22, the Germany international possesses the composure and intelligent positioning, giving the Bundesliga champions a reliable option when opponents press aggressively.
That development matters to Bayern’s long-term planning. The club invested years in Aleksandar Pavlovic’s academy education, and his performances have strengthened the case for keeping him at the Allianz Arena. With his contract running until June 2029, the German champions hold a strong negotiating position and have little incentive to entertain offers.

Aleksandar Pavlović has attracted interest from several leading European sides, with Manchester City reportedly prepared to offer £84 million for his signature. Sport Bild reported that City had considered a €100 million package, although no official offer materialised because the midfielder rejected the prospect of leaving Munich.
According to Ekrem Konur‘s reporting, Manchester United have joined City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in monitoring the Bayern midfielder. Fussball News, cited by The People’s Person and TEAMtalk, described United as seriously considering a move. Bayern, however, have made their position clear: they have no desire to sell.
Chelsea have featured in separate reports about the midfielder, with FootballTransfers citing Fichajes’ claims of interest in March 2026. However, reports have conflicted over whether the London club made direct contact, so formal negotiations remain unconfirmed.
What makes Pavlović so valuable?
The German international offers more than safe passing. He reads pressure early, finds forward passing lanes and helps Bayern move possession from defence into attack without losing their shape. His positional awareness can disrupt counter-attacks before opponents establish dangerous transitions.
Those qualities have translated into encouraging numbers during the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign. The league’s statistics list six appearances, two goals, one assist and 47 tackles won. While those figures highlight his contribution at both ends of the pitch, his value as a deep-lying organiser extends beyond goals and defensive interventions.
Nevertheless, explosive runners and physically imposing midfielders can test his defensive duelling. He still has room to improve his recovery speed and strength in direct contests, particularly when opponents bypass Bayern’s initial press.
Which Premier League teams need Pavlović?
City’s midfield has undergone significant change under Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure. The club has invested in Enzo Fernández, Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi, raising questions about whether another expensive midfield signing would represent sensible squad planning.
Even so, Pavlović offers qualities that could complement City’s existing options. His awareness and forward distribution would help the team control matches, while his positional discipline could give attacking midfielders greater freedom. The key question is whether those strengths justify an £84 million investment when City have already committed substantial funds to rebuilding the department.
Liverpool have been linked with moves to improve their midfield with the lack of a true holding midfielder clear for all to see although Ryan Gravenberch has played well in that role in previous seasons and has been in good form of late.
Manchester United who might be changing managers could offer a better route to regular starts if their struggles persist but having bought 3 midfielders in the summer a move to United is unlikely.
Chelsea, meanwhile, would need to establish how the German international would complement Moisés Caicedo but with Reece James out and Xabi Alonso’s options in the middle of the park thin at best after selling Enzo Fernandez to Man City without replacing him, the Stamford Bridge club’s interest seems legitimate.
Spurs are about the only “top 6” club who are unlikely to be interested having completely rebuilt their midfield with the high profile and costly additions of Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes from Newcastle and West Ham respectively
City remain an attractive tactical destination, but Bayern offer continuity, familiarity and a genuine chance to compete for major honours. Pavlović has already described the reported interest as an honour and explained that staying at his boyhood club was an easy decision.
That preference is more important than the size of a hypothetical fee. Bayern have little reason to negotiate, and Pavlović has shown no appetite for leaving. City will likely respect that position and focus on alternatives unless the midfielder changes his mind. Chelsea are the Premier League team who would seem to be the club who could use Pavlovic the most whether they make a move remains to be seen.
