Andoni Iraola's Liverpool made it four wins in a row at home to high-flying Brighton. It wasn't the most comfortable of afternoons for the six-time European champions, but a first-half blitz proved the difference.
The home side began on the front foot and were rewarded for their positivity when a Florian Wirtz strike trickled past Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton goal. It was later decided the German wouldn't be credited for the goal, as it took a hefty deflection off Pascal Gross. One became two almost immediately after, this time Bradley Barcola taking advantage of a loose ball and firing it across for Alexander Isak to tap home into an empty net.
Brighton rallied thereafter, but the Seagulls weren't able to claw themselves back into the game ahead of the break. Their endeavours continued into the second half and a Brighton goal felt like a matter of time before it arrived.
It didn't arrive though, and Liverpool held on to see out the three points. Here, Express Sport hand out player ratings from Liverpool vs Brighton...
Almost at fault for conceding a goal in the first half after a stray pass fell straight to a Brighton player and looked shaky throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Superb work for the opening goal, as he rode two challenges before picking Wirtz out in the box.
Has built an imperious partnership with Virgil van Dijk.
Looked typically assured at the back.
Offered plenty of industry on the left but faded as the match went on.
Sloppy at times.
A welcome boost in the middle of the park following his one-match suspension in the Premier League.

Deflected goals being taken away from him seems to be a recurring theme. Went off injured in the first half.
Saw plenty of the ball but was quite wasteful.
Wasn't particularly involved in the first half, but took his goal wonderfully.
Alive to the bouncing ball and had the presence of mind to pick out his team-mate in the penalty area. Best player on the pitch.
Swept up well.
Stretched the Brighton backline on occasion.
Solid cameo.
Late change.
