Saints fans pack New Orleans watch parties for early morning loss to Steelers in Paris

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Despite a disappointing loss overseas, the Saints organization made sure fans still felt the love, even if they couldn’t make the trip to France.

With a six-hour time difference from Paris, game day alarms went off Sunday (Oct. 25) much earlier than usual for most fans. But even with less sleep, game day kicked off for fan Steve Arms as he said it always does — with a Bloody Mary.

Bars and restaurants from Kenner to the French Quarter opened their doors early for an 8:30 a.m. kickoff.

Those stuck stateside were left disappointed by the 16-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But when Saints fan Tommy Boehm looks back on the day, that’s not what he plans to remember most. He said he’ll focus on the celebration and camaraderie instead.

The Saints organization hosted a fan event at The Broadside, with appearances from the Saints Cheer Krewe and mascot, authentic French cuisine and a traditional New Orleans brass band.

Elaine St. Angelo enjoyed a bacon, egg and cheese crepe.

“All things French today,” she told Fox 8.

By the final whistle, it was clear the Saints need to sort out a list of challenges during their upcoming bye week. Some fans wanted owner Gayle Benson to turn up the heat.

“They’re so complacent in there. She needs to look at them very, very hard and tell them they need to start stepping up to the plate,” Arms said.

Fan Justin Minor said the team needs to secure wins at home in the Caesars Superdome before taking games international again to places like Japan or Paris.

Still, other fans said being a “real” Saints fan isn’t all about winning, it’s also how you learn from a loss.

“I’m a Who Dat for life. So, I’m always going to rep the Saints,” Niall Martin said.

“New Orleans is awesome, despite what you hear. It’s a great place to live, a great place to tour. It’s just awesome,” Julie Bowles said.

Up next, the team hosts the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 8 at noon.
