Match Officials: Andy Madley to referee Manchester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion (Carabao Cup)
The English Football League have confirmed the list of match officials to oversee proceedings in Manchester City's Carabao Cup fourth round tie on Wednesday night.
Manchester City are hoping to respond from their first defeat across competitions since the Community Shield loss to Arsenal in early August, having lost out to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.
A brace from Nicolas Jackson either side of Erling Haaland's equaliser brought an end to Enzo Maresca's seven-game winning run in the English top-flight since the start of the new season - a record for any new manager at a club in the division.
Despite defeat, Manchester City still find themselves leading the Premier League table on goal difference ahead of Arsenal, but know they must respond immediately in order to maintain the good form established at the start of the Italian's reign.
Next up for City is a break from Premier League action as the club returns to Carabao Cup action at the fourth round stage, as Brighton & Hove Albion travel north for the first of two meetings against the same opponent, at the same stadium, in the same week.
Fabian Hurzeler's side will then return to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon for a 15:00 (UK) clash against City in the Premier League, with the hosts looking to retain their place at the summit of the division - aware of the challenge they face twice this week.
And ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion, the English Football League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium in the first of the aforementioned two clashes!
Match Referee
The EFL have confirmed that Andrew Madley will be the match official tasked with overseeing proceedings on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, appointed into the role of referee for Manchester City against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 43-year-old has so far overseen nine matches across all competitions this season, issuing a total of 34 yellow cards, with no dismissals and no penalties awarded in the process.
In the last round of the Carabao Cup, Madley was the official for Liverpool's 3-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield, where the Huddersfield-born referee issued a total of five yellow cards on Merseyside.
Across his professional officiating career, Andy Madley has been the match referee in 18 matches involving Manchester City, with the Sky Blues winning 13 of those meetings, drawing twice, and losing three contests, receiving 18 yellow cards and two penalties in their favour.
The last time Madley officiated Enzo Maresca's side came towards the end of August, as Manchester City cruised to a 1-4 victory at Selhurst Park against Pierre Sage's Crystal Palace side.
Assistant Referees
Supporting Andrew Madley at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night will be officials Nick Hopton and Mark Stevens, appointed as the game's assistant referees.
