PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to miss Ballon d’Or ceremony

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (25) is among the favourites to win this year’s Ballon d’Or, however, he will miss the ceremony, as per a report from L’Équipe.

Kvaratskhelia won the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain last season and, as was the case the previous season, he was a key player in that success. However, what may count against his chances is Georgia’s absence from last summer’s FIFA World Cup. The winger has also struggled at the start of the season for PSG, although that falls outside the parameters for Ballon d’Or voting.

During last weekend’s 4-2 win over Barcelona in the UCL, Kvaratskhelia sustained an ACL injury. It is a blow that could rule him out of the remainder of the season. In any case, he is out of the Ballon d’Or ceremony due to the injury. The ceremony will take in London on Monday night. He is set to travel to Doha in order to undergo his operation at the start of the week.
