It is reported that Tottenham have no plans to lose Porro midway through the season and are prepared to place a significant price tag on their World Cup-winning defender.
Porro could become the world’s most expensive full-back
While Football Insider did not specify the exact figure, Spurs Web reported on 16 October that Tottenham would demand £75 million from potential suitors.
If met, that fee would make Porro the most expensive full-back in football history, surpassing the £57 million Paris Saint-Germain paid for Achraf Hakimi in 2021.
Tim Sherwood, who has previously been critical of Pedro Porro’s defensive displays, now counts himself among the full-back’s biggest admirers and has urged Spurs to keep hold of the Spaniard.
He said: “Porro is a good example. When he first came to Tottenham under Antonio Conte, he was having him as an out-and-out right-back, a Gary Neville type right-back. And he could not do that – he used to switch off, making runs off the inside and the outside of him, and he just wanted to play forward.
“But now at Tottenham, although he is injured at the moment, when he plays on the front foot there is no one better as a right-sided player. So I go back and say back then I stand by what I said, but now I think he is progressive, I think he is an excellent right-sided player. It would be very well to keep him.”
