Spurs beat the Blues 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to earn another three points in the Premier League.
It was the first time that the Lilywhites had secured a victory at the ground without conceding since December 1986, with several top performances on display for Roberto De Zerbi.
Matues Fernandes' corner saw goalkeeper Mike Penders bundle the ball into his own net late on before a wonderful solo goal from Tel killed the game off.
Spurs are up to 14th in the Premier League, and while there's still plenty of work to be done, consecutive wins have been something hard to come by in recent times and need to be celebrated.
The same can be said for Tel, who hasn't always grabbed the headlines since arriving at Tottenham, but Deeney is rightly giving the winger the spotlight after his performance.
Troy Deeney hails 'unbelievable' Mathys Tel after Chelsea vs Tottenham
Tel spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan from Bayern Munich before making his permanent switch to N17 the following summer.
However, the 21-year-old didn't have the best campaign last season, and will be looking to make a statement this term.
Deeney included the Frenchman in his Team of the Week for BBC Sport, admitting that he looked like the player Spurs were promised.
He wrote: "Tel had a real difficult start to his career at Spurs.
"I thought for the first time against Chelsea we saw what Spurs saw in him: pace, power, hard work, and then obviously an unbelievable goal to finish it as well."
Deeney's claim is easily backed up by FotMob's data on the France U21s star.
Tel earned an 8.0 score and was the highest-rated player, completing the most dribbles in the match (4) at a 57 per cent accuracy rate.
He also had the most touches in the opposition's box with 11, creating two chances for his teammates, boasting an 85 per cent passing accuracy.
Tel won five ground duels and two aerial duels, hitting a top speed of 21.1 miles per hour, covering 5.6 miles of grass in total at Stamford Bridge.
The left-winger made 13 sprints in the match and gave Chelsea's backline constant problems in the 89 minutes that he was on the pitch.
How Tel is already outperforming Roberto De Zerbi's ex-Brighton gem
Tel's form gives the other wide players a problem to think about at Tottenham, because he's just made himself undroppable, at least for the next couple of games.
The young forward has bags of potential, but his best trait is clearly in one-on-one situations, showing similarities to Kaoru Mitoma, who excelled at Brighton under De Zerbi.
The Japan international previously got his university these in dribbling and is known for his ability to take on any full-back in the Premier League.
However, Tel currently completes 3.59 dribbles per 90 minutes, while Mitoma only managed 2.29 per game under De Zerbi in the 2022-23 season, arguably his best campaign for the Seagulls.
Hopefully Tel only continues to improve for Tottenham, as the sky is the limit.
