The Miami Dolphins said they would self-scout during their Week 6 bye and make any necessary adjustments to secure their first win of the 2026 NFL season. During Week 7, they proved they were not just talk. The Dolphins came out against the New York Jets and out together a complete team win, with offense, defense, and, yes, even special teams coming together to defeat their AFC East rivals.
I was only one game, but it felt good to watch the Dolphins not only come away with a victory, but to do it against the Jets. It is a Victory Monday, and it is time to celebrate:

Thoughts on the win
I loved getting our first win - I’ve said over and over again that getting development for the young guys on the roster matters much more than a spot or two in the draft next year and never had any time for the idea of hoping we go 0-17.
Overall takeaways
It’s a bad week for the doom mongers. We were never going to go 0-17. We won’t go 1-16 either. There is talent on this team. There isn’t much depth and even less experience which means there will be rough days ahead too.
On a similar note, if you were one of the people saying bench Willis for McCord just take the L and try to be a little less reactionary next time. Willis obviously gives us our best chance to win this year. After this year, we don’t know yet. Let’s just watch the season.
This was our best coached game of the year on offense and special teams. Too many busts on defense but I loved Haf’s aggression on 4th down. 3 brave calls, 3 conversions and that’s what won us the game.
Offensive thoughts
Coming out of the bye week we just got a better passing offense across the board. Better calls, better decisions and better execution from Malik, and a game changing play for the first time all year from a WR. The timing of when to get Malik to run was excellent too.
Only exception was the 3rd quarter where I thought we got timid when we could have out the game away. Coming out run run pass on the first series was SO predictable. I will say that we would have been in scoring territory on the second drive of the half bar an Austin Jackson special. We had called a QB draw on 3rd and 2 at midfield, there was acres of space for Malik but Jackson just allowed his guy to run in a straight line directly to Malik without touching him at all. I have no idea what he was thinking.
The commitment to the run game was great. After the first chunk run we weren’t actually getting much at first, 3 yards a carry stuff but we stuck with it, wore them down and got the yards when we needed them at the end.
Defensive thoughts
This was a step back for the D but weirdly I don’t feel too worried about it. It was chunk plays that I think can be corrected relatively easily. Every Jets scoring drive had a big play aided by a bust.
The goal line stand was my favorite defensive series of the year. Two run stuffs and a sack from Chop for 3 straight negative plays from 1st and inches.
Feeling a bit sorry for Jason Marshall after the second straight week where he had great coverage on a TD against him. You can’t do much about a perfectly thrown ball highpointed to a guy 5 inches taller than you.
