The Minnesota Vikings have emerged as the NFL’s last unbeaten team at 6-0, but their perfect start to the 2026 season may be more of a mirage than a sign of championship potential.

Despite defeating the Indianapolis Colts 16-10 in Week 7 on Sunday, Minnesota’s offensive struggles are raising serious questions about whether its winning streak can continue.

Minnesota’s 125 points scored are tied for second-fewest by any team through 6-0 start since 1950, trailing only 1978 Rams (116) and matching 1973 Vikings https://t.co/OXnPtFGsb0 https://t.co/UnWRYhVBzF

Through their first six games, the Vikings have scored just 125 points, tied for the second-fewest by any team to begin a season 6-0 since 1950. Only the 1978 Los Angeles Rams, with 116 points, scored fewer, while Minnesota’s total matches that of the 1973 Vikings.

Offensive struggles raise red flags

The numbers become even more concerning when examining the team’s scoring consistency. Minnesota has scored fewer than 20 points in three games and surpassed 23 points only once, during its 39-22 victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. The Vikings have also recorded just 10 touchdowns, the fewest by a 6-0 team since the 1933 Chicago Bears.

Although winning ugly can be a valuable trait, relying on narrow victories and limited offensive production is rarely a sustainable formula against stronger opponents. Eventually, the Vikings’ inability to consistently put points on the board could catch up with them.

A difficult schedule could end the perfect start

Minnesota’s impressive defensive performances have played a significant role in its undefeated record. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores has built a relentless, blitz-heavy unit that has allowed a league-best 12.3 points per game. The defense has surrendered 16 or fewer points in every game except its Week 1 matchup against Green Bay and has yet to allow more than 22 points in a contest.

However, even an elite defense can only carry a struggling offense so far. The Vikings are approaching a challenging stretch featuring the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers. Three of those four games will take place on the road.

First up is a Week 8 divisional showdown against the Lions, who enter at 4-2. Detroit presents a significant test for a Minnesota team that has yet to prove it can consistently win high-scoring contests.

The Vikings deserve credit for reaching 6-0, but their offensive limitations and demanding schedule suggest their unbeaten run could soon end. Unless the offense improves dramatically, Minnesota’s early-season success may prove impossible to maintain.
