The Patriots are releasing longtime punter Bryce Baringer, per multiple reports
NFL reporter Jordan Schultz first reported the news.
Baringer began the season on injured reserve after suffering an injury in the Patriots’ second preseason game. The Patriots signed Mitch Mishnowsky before the 2026 season, and he has punted in seven straight games now.
The Patriots would have had to activate Baringer off of injured reserve for him to play this season. The Patriots are running out of players to activate off IR, with a regular-season limit of eight moves. The Patriots have already activated wide receiver A.J. Brown, and offensive tackle Marcus Bryant has been designated to return.
Wide receivers Mack Hollins and Romeo Doubs, left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, fullback Reggie Gilliam, guard Greg Van Roten and safety Dell Pettus are among the players still on IR who have yet to be designated to return.
Baringer, 27, was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Michigan State. He had not missed a game prior to this season.
He was one of the few players left on the roster who was drafted by Bill Belichick and also played under Jerod Mayo and Mike Vrabel.
Guard Mike Onwenu, defensive tackle Christian Barmore, running back Rhamondre Stevenson, cornerbacks Marcus Jones and Christian Gonzalez and wide receiver DeMario Douglas are now the only players left on the roster who were drafted by Belichick.
