Liverpool hosts Chelsea on Wednesday night, in what is no doubt the headliner tie of the EFL Cup fourth round. The Reds head into this blockbuster tie (to the extent that any League Cup clash can be “blockbuster”) with two new injury concerns: Florian Wirtz and Victor Munoz. Let’s get you up to speed on both.
Wirtz suffered a knock/injury/issue of some sort on his ankle, in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Brighton, but the German striker downplayed the severity of the situation.

Sport Witness quoted the interview that Florian Wirtz gave to Sky Sports Germany after the match, in which he said the following: “We haven’t done any tests yet, but I think it’s not too serious.
“I’ve been twisting my ankle a bit over the last few weeks. I need to get that sorted out somehow. Then I think I’ll be back for the next game.”
While he may or may not be passed fit for midweek, most likely manager Andoni Iraola will sit him for the midweek cup clash. As for Munoz, he could be in a similar situation- maybe able to go, but why risk it
“Victor, he has the knock he received vs Brentford [in the] first half,” Iraola said on Friday.
“He could finish the game very well, but he’s dealing with some pain, you know, since then, and it was too early the other day vs Villareal, and I don’t know if he’s going to play. I think it’s going to be difficult, but I really don’t know.”

Otherwise the Liverpool injury situation remains the same- Hugo Ekitike, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai all remain sidelined.
