The New York Giants exited the Week 7 game against the Houston Texans with an injury concern for running back Cam Skattebo.

During his 42-yard run that set up the Giants’ winning touchdown in overtime, Skattebo pulled up with a leg injury that he later confirmed after the game was a hamstring issue.

We didn’t know the severity of the injury at the time, though, so Skattebo wasn’t out of the woods quite yet.

However, on Monday morning, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Skattebo’s injury is not considered serious and he should be fine.

MORE:

“All indications this morning are (Skattebo) should be OK, especially with the team on a bye this weekend. A rare, welcome instance for NYG to not have an IR candidate after a game,” Garafolo reported.

The Giants’ bye comes at a perfect time, as Skattebo will now have two weeks to get right before Big Blue returns to action in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Skattebo bounced back in a big way for the Giants in Week 7, with the second-year back finishing with a career-high 124 yards while also scoring a touchdown.

The aforementioned 42-yard scamper was the longest of his career.

It was a much-needed performance after Skattebo got himself benched the week prior because of fumbling issues.

Skattebo led the way for the Giants with his 17 carries, but Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy mixed in with five and six carries, respectively.

MORE:

Like Skattebo, Tracy got hurt during the game and had to exit early, which set Singletary up to score the game-winning touchdown on a 30-yard run.

“It was awesome to be able to show Coach and show the team that we have running backs in the backfield that can do it,” Skattebo said, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “Pretty cool.”

The Giants have been speculated about as a team that could potentially make a trade for a running back at the trade deadline given their woes at the position this season.

We’ll see if that’s something the Giants end up doing, but Skattebo’s performance on Sunday might have moved them in the opposite direction of wanting to do so.
