3 realistic trade options as Chiefs are 'calling around' NFL for WR help image

The Kansas City Chiefs just lost embarrassingly on Sunday Night Football, as the offense might've just played their worst game ever in the Patrick Mahomes era against the Seattle Seahawks

For the Chiefs, one thing has become quite clear: Kansas City desperately needs some wide receiver help. While Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice might be fine options, this Chiefs' offense really needs a new threat in the receiving game.

With the report from ESPN's Adam Schefter on The Pat McAfee Show, the Chiefs are "calling around" for WR help.

"They have been calling around, and I don't think it would be a surprise to see them continue to attempt to add a wide receiver before the trade deadline two weeks from tomorrow," Schefter said.

But who can they target? There are some intriguing options worth considering, with these three as realistic options to get Mahomes some help this season.

3 trade targets for Chiefs amid calls for WR help

1. A possible trade reunion in Kansas City

One of the more obvious options for the Chiefs this season would be to reunite with a former wide receiver who has had success with Mahomes before.

While there aren't a ton of options, Hollywood Brown, currently with the Philadelphia Eagles, would make perfect sense as a cheap trade option for the Chiefs.

Brown hasn't been involved in the Eagles' offense much this season, and he'd be a cheap player to pursue in a trade, likely not costing much more than a sixth-round pick, if the Eagles can even demand that much for Brown.

Brown would be the kind of addition that would show the Chiefs' belief in Rice, Worthy, or someone like Cyrus Allen emerging as a quality receiver for Mahomes. But he's far from the only option for Kansas City to consider.

2. A veteran target to raise the floor of the offense

Brown is a cheap option who could help out, but this other veteran target, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin, would be a floor raiser for this offense.

Godwin is a veteran who's not nearly as explosive as he once was, but with the Buccaneers more likely than not out of the NFC South divisional race, Godwin could become a realistic trade candidate this season.

He might be a bit trickier to acquire due to his contract and how the Buccaneers might not want to move on from him. But if they are willing to trade Godwin, then the Chiefs would make sense as a good landing spot for him to chase a second Super Bowl title.

3. The blockbuster option, and it's not a WR from the AFC South

One blockbuster trade target at WR was already moved, with Marvin Harrison Jr. dealt to the Houston Texans. Next in line for a blockbuster WR trade is Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr., but he's not the blockbuster option for KC this season.

With the Jaguars potentially in direct competition with the Chiefs, Thomas might be hard to acquire. Instead, if the Chiefs are willing to splurge with more than a first-round pick on a true blockbuster, Garrett Wilson could be an option.

Wilson had a heated exchange with QB Geno Smith on the sidelines; he wasn't very involved in the New York Jets offense, and this Jets team has already shown a willingness to trade young players for the right price.

Sauce Gardner went for two first-round picks last year, and one year later, maybe the Chiefs look to make a similar blockbuster trade, except targeting Wilson instead.

Chiefs on the hunt for WR help

A trade for Wilson is not a likely move for the Chiefs or Jets to make, but if Kansas City truly believes this might be the last year of the Mahomes-Travis Kelce-Andy Reid era, then a big swing for someone like Wilson would make a lot of sense.

Someone like Godwin is a mid-tier target who, while a possibility, might not be super likely. Brown, on the other hand, is a very likely trade candidate and would make perfect sense as a cheap option for Kansas City to target.

Schefter is reporting the Chiefs are on the hunt for WR help and have already made calls. With Brown's name emerging as a trade candidate, he is the most likely. But if they are ready to go all-in, a massive splurge on Wilson would make a ton of sense as well.
