The San Francisco 49ers are fresh off of their first loss of the season in Week 7 action against the Atlanta Falcons. Following the loss, they hold a 6-1 record and are still one of the top potential Super Bowl contenders in the NFC.
While the team has played at a high level through the first seven games, injuries have become a real factor once again. In recent years, the 49ers have been unable to stay healthy. Overcoming major injury problems is never easy to do.
One position hit extremely hard by injuries this season has been the wide receiver room. Mike Evans is still the lead wideout, but San Francisco has been forced to play without Ricky Pearsall, De’Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson, and obviously Brandon Aiyuk. It’s a group John Lynch and the front office could consider adding to before the November 10 trade deadline.
Should the 49ers have interest in making a wide receiver trade, there are quite a few names worth monitoring. A new suggestion has connected one specific wide receiver as a potential target for San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers Emerge as Possible Chris Godwin Trade Destination
The Athletic recently released a list of 50 potential NFL trade candidates before the deadline. One of them was Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.
Not only did they mention 50 players who could be dealt, they also suggested potential landing spots. For Godwin, there were only two teams mentioned. The 49ers were one of them with the Las Vegas Raiders being the other.
“Godwin signed a three-year, $66 million extension with the Bucs in 2025, opting not to leave in free agency despite other offers. He does not have any guaranteed money on his deal after this season. But the issue with Godwin as a trade piece is his $22 million 2026 base salary,” they wrote.
“Over half the league does not even have the space to consider this trade, unless the Bucs take on some salary. And that is before weighing whether Godwin is worth the money. Among 71 receivers with at least 20 targets, he ranks 51st in yards per route run. He has been playing with backup quarterback Jalon Daniels.”
Godwin has gotten off to a slow start this season with the Buccaneers. He has played in all seven games, catching 27 passes for 243 yards. He has yet to find the end zone.
Whether or not Godwin will be of interest to San Francisco remains to be seen. He would not cost an arm and a leg to acquire, which could make him a more intriguing target. At the very least, Godwin is a name worth monitoring for the 49ers.
