The Packers seem adamant on keeping 11 offensive linemen on their 53-man roster, following Jacob Monk’s placement on the IR
The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday that the team has placed offensive lineman Jacob Monk (quad) on the injured reserve, and that the Packers have replaced his roster spot with the call-up of Mekhi Becton, who was previously on the practice squad.
Interestingly, Green Bay did not move center Sean Rhyan, who is reportedly dealing with a high ankle sprain, to the injured reserve. Linebacker Zaire Franklin, who — like Rhyan — is expected to miss Thursday’s action against the Carolina Panthers, was also not placed on the IR. Franklin reportedly has a fracture in his leg, which will keep Isaiah McDuffie (Mike) and Ty’Ron Hopper (Will) in the starting lineup.
Below is what the Packers’ 53-man roster currently looks like:
QB - 2: Jordan Love and Tyrod Taylor
RB - 4: Josh Jacobs, MarShawn Lloyd, Pierre Strong Jr. and Kaleb Johnson
WR - 6: Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, Bo Melton, J. Michael Sturdivant and Coleman Owen
TE - 4: Tucker Kraft, Mark Redman, Jonnu Smith and Josh Whyle
OL - 11: Jordan Morgan, Laken Tomlinson, John Williams, Travis Glover, Anthony Belton, Aaron Banks, Kevin Zeitler, Donovan Jennings, Jager Burton, Mekhi Becton Sr. and Sean Rhyan
DL - 5: Karl Brooks, Devonte Wyatt, Chris McClellan, Jordon Riley and Anthony Campbell
ED - 4: Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Brenton Cox Jr. and Dani Dennis-Sutton
LB - 5: Isaiah McDuffie, Ty’Ron Hopper, Nick Niemann, Kristian Welch and Zaire Franklin
CB - 5: Keisean Nixon, Brandon Cisse, Carrington Valentine, Benjamin St-Juste and Kamal Hadden
S - 4: Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, Javon Bullard and Kitan Oladapo
K -1: Trey Smack
P - 1: Daniel Whelan
LS - 1: Matt Orzech
Green Bay’s 53-man roster is currently full. The expectation is that the team will scratch three offensive linemen (including the injured Sean Rhyan), running back Kaleb Johnson and linebacker Zaire Franklin this week against the Carolina Panthers to get down to a 48-man game-day roster. This also means, though, that the team won’t be able to call up edge defender Arron Mosby, who has been available for the last two games to play special teams, without adding another scratch.
Below is the Packers’ current practice squad, now that Becton has been moved up to the active roster:
