Browns make Dillon Gabriel roster move after Week 7 comeback win over Titans

Browns make Dillon Gabriel roster move after Week 7 comeback win over Titans image

The Cleveland Browns are a surprising 5-2 on the regular season following another comeback win, this time over the Tennessee Titans in Week 7.

Tied atop the AFC North, the Browns are now set to face off against the 5-2 Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8 for a chance to enter the bye in Week 9 with sole possession of first place in the division.

One day after their Week 7 win, however, the Browns announced an interesting roster move with Dillon Gabriel. According to the Browns, Gabriel has been activated off injured reserve, officially making it so that four quarterbacks are on the 53-man roster.

Browns activated Dillon Gabriel from IR, have 4 QBs on 53-man roster

"We've activated QB Dillon Gabriel from injured reserve and waived TE Carsen Ryan," The Browns announced Monday afternoon.

This roster move from the Browns shouldn't come as a surprise, as Gabriel was set to come back to the team's NFL roster after being placed on Injured Reserve before the season began.

Now, Gabriel is officially back and can play if he is ever needed. But his activation presents an interesting problem for the Browns: they have four QBs on the roster.

Deshaun Watson is the starter and doesn't appear close to losing that job, and Shedeur Sanders has served as the backup to begin the season. Taylen Green is last on the depth chart and is likely fourth with Gabriel's activation.

Keeping four quarterbacks is possible, but with the NFL trade deadline just around two weeks away, it would hardly be a surprise to see Gabriel or Sanders get traded.

Watson and Green aren't going anywhere, so Gabriel or Sanders could be on the move. For Todd Monken and the Browns, a fourth QB on the roster doesn't really help them out much this season.

So, as the trade deadline nears, now with four QBs on the roster after this Monday afternoon roster move, Browns fans should expect to hear Sanders and Gabriel pop up in trade speculation until the November trade deadline passes.
