Confirmed: Striker on Nigeria's radar signs new contract with Chelsea

With a statement on the official website, English Premier League side Chelsea have announced that Nigeria-eligible striker Chizaram Ezenwata has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until at least June 2029.

The 18-year-old forward has impressed in Chelsea’s academy with his sharp footwork and clinical finishing, strengthening his reputation as one of the club’s promising attacking prospects.

Ezenwata enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign with Chelsea’s Under-18 side, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in 21 appearances.

His performances earned him a nomination for the Under-18 Premier League Player of the Season award.

The striker made his Premier League 2 debut against Manchester City during the 2024/25 season and has continued to gain experience with Chelsea’s development squads.

At international level, Ezenwata has represented England in youth competitions.

However, the young forward remains eligible to represent Nigeria through his Nigerian heritage, making him a prospect for the Nigeria Football Federation to monitor as it looks to strengthen the country’s attacking options.

Nigeria are monitoring Ezenwata, who visited the Super Eagles during the 2025 Unity Cup, where he met head coach Eric Chelle.

He was also invited to a Flying Eagles training camp in 2025, further highlighting his links with Nigerian football.

Although his England youth appearances do not automatically commit him to representing the country at senior level, his international future remains an important storyline as he continues his development at Chelsea.
