“Deshaun Watson has 5 game-winning drives this season. The Browns are 5-2.”
ESPN Cleveland shared the statistic after the Browns defeated the Tennessee Titans 27-24. Watson recorded his fifth game-winning drive in that matchup, leading Cleveland into field-goal range in the final seconds.
Watson finished the Titans game with 308 passing yards, one interception and a rushing touchdown. Tennessee tied the score at 24-24 with 58 seconds remaining, giving Cleveland one final opportunity to secure the win. Watson led a four-play, 55-yard drive, completing all three of his passes for 50 passing yards. His most important completion was a 36-yard pass to Harold Fannin Jr., which moved the Browns into field-goal range. Andre Szmyt then converted a 32-yard field goal as time expired, securing the 27-24 victory.
The game also marked Watson’s first 300-yard passing performance with Cleveland. Earlier in the fourth quarter, he scored on a 9-yard rushing touchdown to put the Browns ahead 24-17. Tennessee tied the game again before Cleveland’s final scoring possession.
Watson’s previous game-winning drives came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland defeated Tampa Bay 23-19 after Watson led a fourth-quarter drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Blake Whiteheart. Against Carolina, he threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Fannin with 1:48 remaining, helping the Browns secure a 21-18 win.
The Steelers game ended 27-24 after Watson led a late drive that set up Szmyt’s 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining. Against Baltimore, Watson directed a 62-yard drive that put Cleveland in position for a 37-yard field goal as time expired in a 13-10 victory.
Watson also joined a rare group of NFL quarterbacks with the accomplishment. Since the 1970 merger, he is only the third quarterback to record a game-winning drive in each of his team’s first five victories in a season. Troy Aikman accomplished the feat in 1990, followed by Matthew Stafford in 2016.
The achievement represents a change from Watson’s previous record in Cleveland. Before the 2026 season, he had recorded only one game-winning drive for the Browns, against Baltimore in 2023. He has now added five during the current season.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has 1,474 passing yards, nine touchdowns, four interceptions, 71 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in six games. He recently matched Tom Brady’s record by reaching 100 regular-season wins in 131 starts. Watson’s five game-winning drives, meanwhile, have each helped secure a Browns victory.
The drive against Tennessee extended Watson’s total to five game-winning drives and capped another comeback victory for Cleveland, adding to one of the most productive clutch stretches of his Browns tenure.
