Seattle Seahawks needed a response after a 17-14 Thursday night loss at Denver. Sunday night at Lumen Field, they got one against the Kansas City Chiefs, with Sam Darnold steering a steady offense and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed in the lineup.
Two offensive players left the game before the final whistle, and the details raise fresh questions for Mike Macdonald’s group.
Seahawks lose Rashid Shaheed and Velus Jones Jr. to injuries vs. Chiefs
Seattle won 20-3, but the injury report took some shine off the result. Seahawks PR posted:
“WR Rashid Shaheed will not return; RB Velus Jones Jr. is Out (hamstring).” The update did not name a specific injury for Shaheed.

Both exits hurt because the backfield was already thin. Running back Zach Charbonnet, activated from the PUP list on Thursday’s deadline, did not play.

Seattle still found a way. Sam Darnold finished 20 of 28 for 257 yards and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The Seahawks piled up 410 total yards and ran 41 times for 153 yards. Emanuel Wilson sealed it with a 21-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
Kansas City, which made late roster moves to bolster its offense before the trip, managed only 213 total yards. The Chiefs also missed two field goal tries.
The night ccarried extra significance as former Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III returned to Lumen Field in a Chiefs uniform, a reunion he had previously discussed.”
Seattle now has to sort out its depth, and one recent roster story may hint at the plan.
Zach Charbonnet’s Seahawks activation arrives at the right moment
Zach Charbonnet tore his ACL on January 17 and had surgery on February 20. He opened his practice window on October 1 but was limited in Weeks 5 and 6. Seattle activated him from the PUP list at the deadline, which kept him from reverting to season-ending injured reserve.
With Jones Jr. out, the running back room will be tested again. Charbonnet is eight months removed from surgery, and ACL recoveries typically take nine to twelve months, so his role remains unclear. Shaheed’s status is also unclear, so the receiver room needs answers too.
Seattle also made roster room ahead of the game by moving on from Trevon Diggs, a sign the front office keeps adjusting on the fly. Those adjustments will matter quickly, because the schedule does not slow down.
Seattle improves to 4-3 and hosts the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football on November 2. Kansas City falls to 5-1 and visits the Denver Broncos on November 1. Both teams will watch their injury lists closely before those games.
