Travis Kelce Reaches Incredible Career Milestone as Chiefs Battle Seahawks on Sunday Night

Travis Kelce provided a rare highlight in a lopsided road loss in Seattle. The Kansas City Chiefs fell 20-3 to the Seahawks on Sunday night, their first defeat of the season, as the offense struggled to find any rhythm. Yet the veteran tight end still etched his name into the record books, and the achievement says plenty about his career.

Travis Kelce passes Marvin Harrison on all-time receptions list

Kelce caught four passes on eight targets for 44 yards against Seattle. That pushed him to 1,103 career receptions, according to the Chiefs, and moved him past Indianapolis Colts great Marvin Harrison into fifth place in NFL history. Harrison finished his career with 1,102 catches, while Cris Carter retired with 1,101.

Only four players now sit above him. Jerry Rice leads with 1,549, followed by Larry Fitzgerald at 1,432, Tony Gonzalez at 1,325 and Jason Witten at 1,228. Reporter Mike Garafolo pointed out that tight ends now hold three of the top five spots.

The team also celebrated online. The Chiefs wrote, “And he just keeps climbing” beside a graphic honoring him.

At 37, Kelce remains a steady target for Patrick Mahomes. Before Sunday, he had 20 catches for 299 yards and two touchdowns this season. The four grabs against Seattle lifted him to 24 receptions and 343 yards.

Kelce reached the milestone in a game Seattle controlled, as the Seahawks held Kansas City to 213 total yards, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba gave his team the edge with nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown.

For Kelce, the achievement came a week after a scare that left fans anxious.

Travis Kelce’s ankle injury scare draws NFL ruling

Kelce’s ankle scare began in Week 6, when Chargers defensive tackle Justin Eboigbe delivered a low hit during a Kenneth Walker III touchdown run. Kelce limped to the sideline, had his ankle taped and came back. He still produced 53 receiving yards in the Chiefs’ 22-6 win.

Many expected a fine for the tackle. Instead, the NFL’s weekly accountability list left Eboigbe off, and the decision stirred debate. Alex Harkey was the only Chargers player named.

The timing mattered because Kansas City was already short on weapons. Rashee Rice has dealt with a hamstring injury since Week 4, and Tyquan Thornton is on injured reserve, and left tackle Josh Simmons joined him there on Oct. 22 with a back injury.

Kelce was limited in practice before Seattle, yet he played. The Chiefs also made late roster moves, signing wide receiver Andrew Armstrong to the active roster two days before kickoff.

Kelce now owns a top-five spot in league history, while the Chiefs sit at 5-1 after the Seattle setback. Next comes a Nov. 1 trip to Denver, which lost to Kansas City in Week 1 and beat Seattle in overtime on Oct. 15.
