Packers Urged to Consider Surprising Wide Receiver Move

The Green Bay Packers are fresh off of a heartbreaking and controversial loss in Week 7 on the road against the Detroit Lions. Following the NFL, the officials have received a lot of heat, but kicker Trey Smack has also shouldered a large portion of the blame.

Matt LaFleur and the Packers were called for quite a few blatant bad penalties. However, Smack missed two short field goals that would have given Green Bay the win.

Unfortunately, the loss moves the team to 4-3 on the year. The Packers have a lot of work to do in order to prove that they can be a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the NFC.

Keeping that in mind, the trade deadline is coming up fast. Green Bay isn’t typically the kind of team that makes aggressive in-season roster moves, but there are some areas that could be improved. Adding a wide receiver has been suggested on quite a few occasions.

With that being said, one specific suggestion would see the Packers make a move for a surprising wide receiver.

Green Bay Packers Urged to Consider Pursuing Trade for Calvin Ridley

FanSided’s Nick Halden believes that Green Bay should trade for Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

“Ridley gives you far more margin to stumble and hands Love yet another weapon alongside the return of Josh Jacobs,” Halden wrote. “There simply isn’t a valid argument against a deal that makes the roster deeper and helps make a needed Super Bowl push.”

Ridley has not had a big role with the Titans this season. In six games played, the veteran wideout has caught just five passes for 81 yards. Last season, he racked up 17 receptions for 303 yards in seven games.

At 31 years old, Ridley hasn’t had a big role since the 2024 campaign. During that season, he caught 17 receptions for 303 yards in seven games.

Whether or not Brian Gutekunst and the Packers’ front office have any interest in adding another receiver remains unknown. That being said, investing heavier into star quarterback Jordan Love is always a good idea.

Green Bay will be an interesting team to watch as the trade deadline continues to draw closer.
