Chiefs' loss to Seahawks reveals a disturbing trend for Patrick Mahomes image
The Kansas City Chiefs went to Seattle on Sunday in hopes of pulling off a road win, but that didn't happen. Instead, the Chiefs fell to the Seattle Seahawks, 20-3. Obviously, by the looks of that score, this wasn't a close game. The Chiefs were simply outplayed and left with pie in their faces.
Of course, all is not lost. The season is still going, and the Chiefs have lots of time to rack up more wins and make a deep playoff run. But this loss showcased a problem the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes are going to have to fix to do better.
The NFL's official website has released a feature about the NFL's Week 7 games and what went down. In it, Grant Gordon points out a problem Mahomes and Kansas City are up against.
Patrick Mahomes continues to struggle against elite defenses, raising concerns for the Kansas City Chiefs
That problem is that he's just struggling when up against elite defenses. He's great when the defense is weak, but when the defense is strong, it's another story.
"Patrick Mahomes simply looked off all night long and continued his struggles playing against top-ranked defenses," he notes in the piece. "He's now 4-4 (including playoffs) in his career versus No. 1 total defenses and lost his third straight in such games (lost last season to Texans, lost Super Bowl LIX to Eagles)."
He adds that it should be concerning that the Seahawks were able to stop the Chiefs, including keeping running back Kenneth Walker III in check and flustering Mahomes. It's something they'll have to work on before going up against rivals the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
