Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Brighton centre-back Luka Vuskovic, according to TEAMtalk, with both clubs chasing Champions League qualification.
Why Chelsea and Liverpool Want Luka Vuskovic
The Croatian has impressed since arriving at the Amex from Tottenham Hotspur. He is strong in the air, wins his ground duels and stays composed when defending one-on-one. He also reads the game well and passes calmly out from the back, which explains why he is being talked about as one of the Premier League’s best young centre-backs.
Brighton Will Demand a High Price
Transfermarkt values the 19-year-old at £55m. With his contract running until 2031, Brighton are under no pressure to sell, so any suitor should expect a hefty fee.
Liverpool May Hold the Edge
Liverpool are fourth and Chelsea fifth in the table, and Champions League football could make either club more attractive to a player and his representatives.
In my opinion, Liverpool look better placed. Virgil van Dijk is getting older and the Reds need more depth in defence, so a long-term partner for him makes sense. Chelsea may prefer to prioritise their midfield next year, and I would be surprised if they entered a bidding war for Vuskovic.
Either way, Brighton’s valuation and his long contract mean this one could be a long saga.
