Coach Brian Schottenheimer's Dallas Cowboys headed to Philadelphia to tangle with the Eagles in a game that brought out the warrior spirit in former lineman Marcus Spears. Two Cowboys players were ruled out due to injury, and Dallas owner Jerry Jones knew his team was up for a difficult challenge.
Jones spoke to Jason Kelce and Pat McAfee before the game, during which he shared a blunt warning for his team about facing the Jalen Hurts-less, Tanner McKee-led Eagles.
“The last time we played a team that had a backup quarterback we got our a** kicked,” Jones said.
The Cowboys owner was referring to Dallas' Week 5 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which came by a score of 24-16 with undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels starting in place of injured QB Baker Mayfield.
They were tied with Philadelphia in second place in the NFC East heading into Monday Night Football's Week 8 contest with a record of 2-4, behind John Harbaugh's 4-2-1 New York Giants.
The week included a shocked reaction from Cowboys super-fan Skip Bayless about Jones' team being favorites against the Eagles, as the former FOX Sports host knows the depths his favorite team is capable of sinking into. The Dak Prescott-led Cowboys are a team capable of playing way up to, or way down to, their level of competition, something Jones knows all too well.
As the game got ready for kickoff, fans began to sense that a close matchup could be brewing. Jones' warning was a fair one, considering he knows his franchise as well as anyone.
