Cardinals receiver out for the season

It always happens. You have an abundance of one thing, list one or two on Facebook Marketplace, make some new money, and then all of sudden something breaks, you are robbed and three others are stolen, and you drop the last one and break it.

Yeah. The life of being involved with the Arizona Cardinals. After trading away WR Marv Harrison in a crowded receiver room, word now comes that WR Jalen Brooks had surgery to repair an injured wrist.

Brooks posted on his Instagram:

> _“Have to get an emergency surgery on my wrist. I don’t need any phone calls. Just Prayer. I’ll be done for the season. God is in control of my next steps. Much love.”_

Against the Denver Broncos, with 2:09 remaining in the game, Brooks caught a short pass and rumbled for 35 yards to Denver’s one-yard line. As he was being tackled, he extended the ball in an attempt to break the plane for a touchdown. He was hit and stopped just short at the Broncos’ 1-yard line. After the game, he was visibly uncomfortable in the locker room.

Brooks sprained or fractured his wrist. It must have been a severe injury because he had surgery on Monday.

Brooks, age 26, was the darling of this year’s preseason, and one of the reasons viewed by the Cardinals coaching staff as a reason they could move on from Harrison, who didn’t seem to fit this new offense. Along with WR Kendrick Bourne, Brooks was expected to garner more of the workload.

This season, Brooks played in all seven games with zero starts. He had 17 targets with five receptions for 81 yards, an average of 16.2 yards per catch, 26 YAC, converted three first downs, and had 1 drop. But his targets increased once Harrison left.

Receiver Simi Fehoko, who has mostly gotten snaps on special teams, will now fill Brooks’ role on the offense. The other receivers on the roster are rookie Reggie Virgil and kick returner Devin Duvernay. Listed on the practice squad are Harrison Wallace and Shedrick Jackson.
