Arsenal eager to sign £42m German star in January, 12 goals this season - Journalist

Arsenal remain keen on signing Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi this winter, according to reputed journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Germany Under-21 international had an impressive debut campaign with Brugge last term, scoring 23 goals and providing nine assists from 58 appearances.

He has started his second season in even better fashion, scoring 12 goals from just 14 appearances. This includes a Champions League hat-trick at Inter Milan.

Plettenberg has now revealed that Arsenal and other top clubs remain interested in landing the 22-year-old, and a January exit could be on the cards as well.

Barcelona were previously keen to secure his signature last summer, but they were put off by Brugge’s £42 million valuation for the highly rated marksman.

Arsenal may not pursue deal for Tresoldi

The Germany youth international has been in good scoring form for the reigning Pro League champions, and his consistency has spread speculation that he could depart soon.

The Gunners signed Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Brugge last summer, and that contributed to the Belgian outfit keeping hold of both Tresoldi and Joaquin Seys at the club.

Brugge decided to delay the pair’s exit for another 12 months, but we won’t be surprised if Tresoldi were to depart this winter if any club meets the reported £42 million valuation.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest for some time, and it was claimed earlier in April that sporting director Andrea Berta was in direct negotiations with Brugge for him too.

Nothing materialised in terms of a transfer, and we believe Arsenal may not pursue a deal for the striker this winter and could prefer a more marquee acquisition to challenge for the league title.

Tresoldi is more of a classic number nine like Viktor Gyokeres, which may not suit Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta may likely want a new centre-forward with the mobility and versatility of Kai Havertz.

Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez no longer seems a target amid his reluctance to return to the Premier League due to residency issues for his family. It was regularly highlighted last summer.

In our view, Bournemouth starlet Junior Kroupi could be a player to watch out for in January. He was on the Gunners’ radar before he sustained a foot fracture in pre-season with the Cherries.

The Frenchman has just returned to the playing field, and his performances could be assessed over the next couple of months. Arsenal could be prepared to make a huge outlay for him this winter.

The 20-year-old scored the most goals by a teenager in a debut Premier League season last term (13) and caught the eye with his ability to operate as a number 10, centre-forward and occasional left winger.
