Liverpool hold Borussia Dortmund central midfielder Felix Nmecha in high regard, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Reds are widely expected to bolster their midfield after failing to strengthen that department properly since 2023.
Liverpool could use another central midfielder and a natural holding anchor in the middle of the park.
Ryan Gravenberch is more of a box-to-box operator, while Alexis Mac Allister’s future at Anfield beyond this summer is uncertain.
Andoni Iraola’s side needs reinforcement in the centre of the park, and Nmecha is one option after a breakout World Cup 2026 tournament.
The Germany international caught the eye with his poise and power. He is a box-to-box midfielder with good passing and a terrific engine.
Julian Nagelsmann considers him a ‘world-class player‘. The Liverpool target has already bagged two goals in seven league appearances this term.
However, Nmecha is not currently a priority target for the Reds, as they prefer Lamine Camara and Alex Scott.
They will likely face stiff competition for both and have the former Manchester City man on their shortlist as a back-up target.
Liverpool should target Camara
Liverpool should make Camara their leading midfield target. He is arguably the best fit for the role they need to fill.
Unlike Nmecha and Scott, the Senegalese international can operate as a natural holding midfielder.
He has the defensive discipline and positional awareness required to protect the back four. He was more of a deep-lying playmaker while developing.
Gravenberch is at his best when given the freedom to carry the ball forward, making a specialist anchor particularly important for Liverpool’s midfield balance.
Camara could provide that security while allowing the Dutchman to flourish in a more advanced role.
Scott is an exciting talent, but his injury record raises concerns over his reliability.
Liverpool should prioritise Camara ahead of the Englishman, securing a specialist number six who addresses their most pressing midfield weakness.
