Fleetwood Team News
Fleetwood Town manager Matt Lawlor spoke to BBC Radio Lancashire about welcoming a club like Arsenal to their home ground, Highbury:
“It is an amazing night for the club and an amazing night for the fans, the town and the area. We have sold out for the first time in 11 or 12 years which is unbelievable and it is an amazing thing to be a part of,” he said.
“We are glad that it is here and we are glad that we are welcoming the best team in the country and the champions of last year – to Highbury.
“The champions are coming to town on our patch and it’s on telly so if you can’t get up for this game you can’t get up for any game. The players need to be excited for it but while respect is through the roof, the fear can’t be.”
Lewis McCann will be missing for the home side as he serves a one-game ban after his yellow card against Sheffield United, his second of the tournament.
Kane Thompson-Sommers is a long-term injury absentee, but Andy Cannon could be available after injury, and Rhys Bennett is also available after suspension.

Arsenal Team News
Mikel Arteta was asked in his pre-match press conference if Dowman will start against Fleetwood, and the Arsenal boss said: “Let’s see.”
Arteta was asked if this game presented a golden chance for fringe players to force their way into his plans:
“Well, let’s see. Let’s see tomorrow where everybody is because individually as well we have put so much demand in so many players. And see how we can now plan the next week,” said the Gunners boss.
When asked about Viktor Gyokeres, Arteta said: “Yeah, I think he was unlucky two or three moments. He’s in front of goal, he’s won the position to both centre-backs and the ball doesn’t get there. But he’s done a lot of good things I think today again and we need to keep insisting. I think he had a really good contribution in Munich as well when he came on. He helped us to change the game and that’s what we need from all of them.”
Fleetwood Predicted Lineup
Lynch, Rooney, Bennett, Potter, Cirino, McLean, Neal, Helm, Andrew, Coughlan, Evans.
Arsenal Predicted Lineup
Kepa, White, Mosquera, Salmon, Hincapie, Zubimendi, Lewis-Skelly, Dowman, Merino, Eze, Gyokeres.
The Last Word: Prediction for Fleetwood vs Arsenal
The Gunners will almost certainly make a few changes, but if our predicted lineup is right or almost there, Mikel Arteta’s team have more than enough to get the win. Fleetwood will be relying on the experience of Ched Evans, but they will need much more than him to trouble Piero Hincapie and Ben White.
Arsenal are often professional in these types of games, but were upset back in 2012, losing on penalties to Bradford City, with Mikel Arteta a part of the squad. However, this Gunners squad have proven their mettle by winning the 2025/26 Premier League and reaching the final of the Champions League. We can’t see anything other than an Arsenal win.
Prediction: Fleetwood 1-4 Arsenal
