Sandro Tonali Tottenham
Tottenham’s record signing Sandro Tonali has revealed how Roberto De Zerbi felt during the club’s early-season struggles.
Sandro Tonali looks to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Tottenham Hotspur’s training and bonding exercise in Marbella, Spain.
The midfielder has looked like a man reborn, putting in two solid performances – bossing the midfield first in the game against Coventry and then more recently in the clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Tonali’s underlying numbers highlight his improvement, showing him as a smooth operator with the ball while also covering significant ground on the pitch.
Spurs Web described the Italian’s outing against Coventry as his best yet in our match ratings, but within days that was topped by his display against Chelsea.
It has not always been easy for Tottenham this campaign, and Tonali has now revealed just how much the Lilywhites’ struggles affected Roberto De Zerbi.

Sandro Tonali reveals Roberto De Zerbi’s struggles at Tottenham
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, the former Newcastle man explained that the Spurs boss had been the one hurting most during Tottenham’s early-season struggles.
The Lilywhites failed to secure favourable results in their opening six matches, remaining winless and at one point were rooted to the bottom of the table.
However, fortunes have since changed with back-to-back wins, including a first victory at Stamford Bridge since 2018 and only a second triumph there in their last 42 outings.
Speaking after the Chelsea clash, Tonali said in comments relayed by Milan News: “Monday was a bit of a wrap-up for this first part of the season. It’s been a constant growth, we shouldn’t just look at our start but take the positives.
“The performances were excellent, everyone loves the coach, who is suffering more than anyone here at Tottenham. We know we have a lot to give him because we haven’t achieved anything yet. Since last week, we’ve been much more of a team, we can’t stop. We need to stay positive and play our football.”
De Zerbi’s passion is driving Tottenham forward
De Zerbi will certainly be a happier man now, but he will only demand more from his players. The Italian’s passion was evident in his celebrations as Spurs thumped Chelsea away from home.
Effort, though, was required before he could turn his players’ fortunes around, with De Zerbi revealing that the change was not down to tactical tweaks but rather honest meetings.
He said: “I think what I call the negative record was the last problem we fought before the game.
“Normally we wanted to make our fans happy, but it is not our responsibility, it is the results of the past. Now, winning the game, we are very happy for them, very proud for the club. But I think we are working to change the mentality of our club in the last seasons.
“Seven points after Manchester, before Manchester we spoke a lot. A big, big meeting, removing the mask and speaking honestly, clearly in front of ourselves. And from that moment I think we changed something in ourselves.”
