Saquon Barkley Gives Update on Back, Hamstring Injuries

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley entered Week 7 with a hamstring injury that limited his workload against the Dallas Cowboys, and the running back suffered a back injury on Monday Night Football. Originally entering the league as the second-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Penn State product hit the ground running, recording 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns as a rookie for the New York Giants. He remained an elite running back during his five years with the club before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, where he immediately led the league with 2,005 rushing yards while playing a key role in the team’s championship run.

After missing a few weeks of action, Saquon Barkley returned to the field in a limited role and finished Week 7’s loss with seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown to go along with two receptions for nine yards. While he only played nine snaps in the game thanks to the hamstring and back injuries, the running back said he plans on staying on the field but acknowledged his body isn’t reacting the way he wants it to.

“It’s kind of the school of thought I come from: I truly love the game, and I feel like if you’re able to go, sometimes you’ve got to push your body to the limit,” Saquon Barkley said. “I’m trying, it’s just not responding the way I want it to respond right now. It sucks because I’m trying to be the best leader I can be, and it’s hard when you’re not able to be out there and perform for your team.”

The Last Word

The Philadelphia Eagles are always at their best with Saquon Barkley in the lineup, and the team desperately needs him to stay on the field if they want to salvage their season. The Eagles are now on a five-game losing streak and won’t have quarterback Jalen Hurts for the foreseeable future. Tanner McKee has not impressed thus far, and Barkley will need to carry the offense moving forward.
