The Belgian international is currently in Scotland, but heavy transfer speculation surrounded his future in the summer.

After shining at the World Cup alongside Kevin De Bruyne for the Red Devils, he eventually remained at Ibrox.

Under new manager Derek McInnes, he was left out of several games with a transfer in mind earlier in the campaign.

It never happened, and now questions have been asked about whether he could extend his contract, which expires next season.

Gordon Strachan doesn't see that happening, though, with Everton named as a possible bystander.

Who could Nicolas Raskin join?

Rangers fans are fed up of the uncertainty around their star midfielder, and Everton have now been thrown into mix out of nowhere.

Speaking on Open Goal, Strachan admits that he'd rather leave Ibrox than sign a new deal, regardless of what's been said already.

"I've always liked him," he said.

"He's a player, he can play. He's not at that top-six level in England or anything like that.

"That group underneath, he can go on to Everton, things like that, he could play there, no bother."

Do Everton need another midfielder?

At first glance, not right now.

James Garner is the everpresent star, while Harrison Armstrong is improving every week and has Hayden Hackney pushing for minutes behind him, too.

Add Christian Norgaard into the mix, and David Moyes is well stacked there, something he can't say elsewhere in his squad.

But, after his injury in the summer, Norgaard has looked atrocious.

Signing the Dane from Arsenal was never a long-term fix, but rather adding the experience that was left when Idrissa Gana Gueye moved on.

Raskin could replace that, but it feels really unlikely that would happen in January or even next summer, given Everton's priorities elsewhere.

Moyes will know the Scottish market perfectly, though, and have his contacts in those fields.

If they say good enough things, don't be surprised to see Everton shop there again very soon.

Nathan Patterson was the last signing from Rangers, and that certainly didn't work out, did it?

This was just an example, and there's a long way to go until it becomes even close to reality for Raskin and the Blues.
