Michael Carrick is set to remain in charge of Manchester United’s game against Chelsea this weekend having being handed another chance to turn things around at Old Trafford.
The United boss held talks with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox on Monday in the wake of the dismal 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth.
It continued United’s worst ever start to a Premier League season, leaving them hovering above the relegation zone having taken just seven points from eight games.
The Bournemouth defeat came just days after a humiliating night in the Champions League, beaten 4-1 by competition debutants Como with Bruno Fernandes blasting the manager in the aftermath.

United have been exploring alternative options with Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann thought to be the front runners to replace Carrick.
But United are not fully sold on the those vying for the job.
Carrick took first-team training on Tuesday despite the uncertainty and will remain in place for the trip to Chelsea on Saturday 31 October.

Woeful results have been compounded by Lisandro Martinez and Fernandes breaking rank to publicly denounce the club.
Carrick dropped Fernandes from his starting XI on Sunday with the captain remaining on the bench as an unused substitute.
The former England international has repeatedly taken full responsibility for United’s malaise and as he left the pitch after the Bournemouth defeat, United supporters chanted and sang his name.

‘It wasn’t a farewell from me,’ Carrick said on Sky Sports.
‘I’ve mixed emotions, I’m feeling it for my players, they’re going through a tough spell. Some of it we can help, some of it the situation unravels and the boys are feeling it at the moment.
‘Mixed emotions for the supporters to respond in that way. To have that connection with the supporters it’s mixed emotions, it’ll take a bit of time to digest but I certainly appreciate their support.
‘The situation is where we are and we haven’t had results or performances that have been good enough.’
