A big decision has been made by Man United's hierarchy - Michael Carrick is set to stay, for now.

Chelsea will be hoping to bounce back in the Premier League against Man United after their defeat to Spurs.

Manchester United are set to keep Michael Carrick as the club's boss ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea.

After winning just one of their first eight Premier League games this season, Man United had to decide on Carrick after a 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth, a result that seemed to mark the end of the road for him.

One win, four draws, and three defeats see the Red Devils just one point clear of the relegation zone, a concerning position so early in the season.

The United hierarchy was expected to relieve Carrick of his duties before Saturday's league fixture at Stamford Bridge, but as the hours and days passed, the uncertainty increased.

But as widely reported, United have decided to stick with Carrick, giving him and his staff a chance to turn the club's season around.

After Tuesday's training session at Carrington, it's business as usual, and Carrick will be in the dugout for United's trip to the capital.

The spotlight on Carrick's future will continue. United appear to have delayed their decision in hopes of improving their poor run of results to start the campaign. But no change will now be made before the trip to Chelsea.

Chelsea will be keen to mount the pressure on Carrick and United. Xabi Alonso's side are already under pressure heading into Saturday's clash after their dismal 2-0 home loss to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who claimed their second-ever league win at Stamford Bridge over the Blues.

They are needing to bounce back immediately, with a trip to Anfield awaiting on Wednesday for a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool.

Chelsea's record for United needs improvement

Alonso's side don't have the best of records against Man United. Chelsea have won just two of the last 12 Premier League meetings between the sides.

Chelsea lost 1-0 at home to United back in April, and will be hoping to avoid a repeat to get back to winning ways in the league.

It's a pressure game for both sides. United desperately need wins, regardless of who is in charge, while Alonso must restore positivity to the Stamford Bridge crowd, who made their feelings known at the full-time whistle against Spurs, for those who were still there.

Fortunately, Chelsea will have Cole Palmer available after his red card against Spurs. He will serve his one-match ban against Liverpool, so he will be keen to prove a point after apologising for his dismissal.
