Why David Moyes was fuming after Arsenal took the lead against Everton

Everton fell to a 2-0 loss against Arsenal on Saturday evening, but David Moyes took issue with the first goal his side conceded.

Few would have expected an Everton win on Saturday, facing the defending champions who are in excellent form right now. But Everton’s performance was frustrating, with several players struggling and David Moyes’ side not really having a go.

However, leaving the game, Moyes will feel hard done by having been left livid at the circumstances in which Arsenal took the lead.

Everton lose 2-0 at Arsenal… what did you make of that performance? 😕

Moyes is digging his hole too deep now, how in the hell is Hackney, Dibbling & Alcaraz not starting, when Johnson, Barry & Garner have been awful? His subs are way too late & he dislikes several of them, especially Charli.

Total lack of ambition and just seem happy with apathy and stagnation ! Can,t trust moyes with transfer funds as he doesn,t use the players he,s got now ! A new manager will want his own players aswell !

Only four points above the relegation zone now 🥴👀

David Moyes felt Arsenal should never have scored their opener

Arsenal took their lead through Ezri Konsa, but commenting on the game for BBC Sport, journalist Alex Howell noticed Moyes’ angry reaction to the goal being awarded.

He wrote: “David Moyes is unhappy with something. He is animatedly shouting towards the referee for a foul that he feels Everton should have had.”

Moyes’ complaints may well have been directed at Viktor Gyokeres’ interference with Jordan Pickford, as replays showed he was blocking the goalkeeper with a hand in his face and with his entire body before Konsa bundled it in.

Moyes had the right to be annoyed, and his complaints continued at the end of the first half as he pleaded his case to the fourth official, but it fell on deaf ears. It can’t be an excuse for the defeat, though. Everton were outclassed and should have done better to make a game of it.

Everton now faces a double header against Newcastle in the cup and then the league, both of which Moyes needs to be targeting a win in; otherwise, this season’s strong start will soon be forgotten, and pressure over Moyes’ future will begin to ramp up once again.

There can be no more excuses; Moyes needs wins. Fans are already clamouring for change, and no win before the international break will just validate their criticisms.
