Pedro is their top scorer in all competitions this season on five goals, but is set for a period of recovery.

"Yes, he has an injury on his thigh and he is going to be out for a few weeks," manager Xabi Alonso confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

"Let's see how many, we don’t want to predict on that."

Geovany Quenda joined Cole Palmer in the front three against Spurs, whilst Morgan Rogers played a more central role.

Danny Welbeck, who has netted three times this season, was named on the bench and didn't come on until the 88th minute.

Pedro's absence could be detrimental to Chelsea in their upcoming fixtures, but a debut may be on the cards at Anfield.

Alonso has confirmed that Emmanuel Emegha is in the squad to face Liverpool after his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Emegha has not played a single minute for the club since his summer move from Strasbourg, although he did feature in pre-season.

"For sure, it's important we have him available," Alonso confirmed.

"He's been training for the last 10 days in a good way to allow him to build up his fitness. Maybe tomorrow he has the chance to play."

Chelsea will have various absences away at Liverpool, including Palmer following his sending off against Spurs.

Red card suspensions are not competition specific and in force across domestic competitions.

Palmer can return from his one-match ban on Saturday when Chelsea host Manchester United, live on talkSPORT, with under-pressure head coach Michael Carrick set to be in the away dugout.
