The NFL could soon see Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman return to the Dallas Cowboys in a major organizational role, with owner Jerry Jones leaving the door open for a potential reunion with the franchise legend.

Speaking Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones suggested that bringing Aikman back to the organization remains a genuine possibility, although no immediate plans have been confirmed.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on @1053thefan that he would be willing to bring in Troy Aikman for a major role with the franchise. “The answer is not that necessarily we’re going to do something more direct with the team at this time, but don’t rule it out. It’s very possible.”

“The answer is not that necessarily we’re going to do something more direct with the team at this time, but don’t rule it out. It’s very possible,” Jones said.

The comments have sparked speculation about whether Aikman could transition from his broadcasting career into a front-office position with the Cowboys, where he spent 12 seasons as the team’s quarterback.

Aikman currently works as a broadcaster for ESPN, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Reports of tension with broadcasting partner Joe Buck have also raised questions about whether the Hall of Famer will return to the booth next year.

A move into an NFL front office could provide Aikman with a new opportunity to contribute to the sport. His closest experience in that capacity came when he served as a consultant for the Miami Dolphins during their search for a new general manager.

Aikman has previously indicated that he would be open to considering a position with Dallas if Jones approached him with an offer.

“I would welcome any conversation with Jerry, and quite honestly I don’t know if there ever would be an opportunity,” Aikman told Cowboys insider Mike Fisher.

“But if Jerry came to me and felt in his heart that I could lend some services that could help make them better, I’d have a hard time not taking a good look at that,” he added.

Cowboys legend could return to Dallas

Aikman remains one of the most celebrated players in Cowboys history. He quarterbacked the franchise from 1989 to 2000, winning three Super Bowls and earning Super Bowl MVP honours following Dallas’ victory in Super Bowl XXVII in 1992.

His experience, leadership and understanding of the organization could make him an intriguing addition to the Cowboys’ leadership structure.

For now, Aikman remains with ESPN through the end of the season, and no formal role with Dallas has been announced. However, Jones’ latest comments suggest that a reunion between the franchise and its legendary quarterback should not be ruled out.
