During the summer window, suggestions emerged that Lucas Bergvall was keen to find an exit route from north London amid doubts over his role at Tottenham Hotspur.

Several clubs monitored the central midfielder’s situation, with Nottingham Forest emerging as the most serious suitor after making a concrete move by lodging a couple of bids. However, no deal materialised, leaving the Swede in N17 to remain part of Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

Lucas Bergvall has continued to struggle to make an impact, being in and out of the side. Competition for places in Spurs’ midfield has further limited his involvement. The 20-year-old, who is currently out injured, surprised the fans by penning a new contract in September. Yet, that hasn’t stopped European clubs from keeping tabs on him.

Napoli join Barcelona in transfer chase for Lucas Bergvall

Recent reports emerged suggesting that Bergvall has been offered to Juventus via intermediaries. The Turin giants are in the market for a new midfielder and are showing interest in the Spurs starlet.

Now, according to a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Bergvall is understood to be a target for both Barcelona and Napoli as the two sides look to strengthen their midfield options.

Barcelona have previously been linked with the Swedish midfielder. Interest from the Spanish giants is particularly notable, as they were keen on the youngster back in the winter of 2024 before Spurs beat them to his signature. They are reportedly eyeing the 20-year-old as a potential Gavi successor.

Napoli, meanwhile, are already drawing up their plans for January, with Bergvall emerging as a potential option to boost their midfield options for the second half of the season. The Tottenham man also offers a further strategic advantage, as his age would allow the Naples-based outfit to include him on their Under-21 list without using a slot reserved for senior players.

Tottenham do not want to part ways with Bergvall in January

From Tottenham’s perspective, there is absolutely no intention to allow Bergvall to leave in the winter transfer window, especially after offering him a new contract. Losing a talent of his potential would undoubtedly trigger immense resistance from the Lilywhites’ hierarchy, who view the midfielder as an integral part of the club’s future ambitions.

De Zerbi rates the Stockholm-born midfielder highly and will give him opportunities to showcase his talent as the season progresses. For now, the player remains entirely focused on his recovery from muscle injury.
