The Indianapolis Colts have begun their fire sale and it starts with a trade with the Seattle Seahawks involving All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Colts are shipping Nelson off to the Seahawks in what amount to the first big trade ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
“Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and (Ian Rapoport). Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency,” he said.
Schefter did not immediately reveal the return for Indy.
Ever since the Colts’ season went into a downward spiral and the team decided to fire general manager Chris Ballard, they have been widely viewed as a top sell candidate.
Well, that has now been confirmed.
The Seahawks had a clear need at guard during a season in which they are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champs.
Nelson fills that need in a big way. The Colts great has been an elite guard in the NFL ever since he entered the league, as evidenced by his eight Pro Bowl nods and six All-Pro selections, three of which were first-team nods.
